KBL Round 20 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Wonju DB defeat Mobis Phoebus

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

KBL top team - Wonju DB (21-5) managed to deliver another win on Monday. This time they beat sixth ranked Mobis Phoebus (11-14) 102-92. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Mobis Phoebus. It was a great shooting night for Wonju DB especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Worth to mention a quality performance of American power forward Dedric Lawson (206-1997, college: Kansas) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and the other American import guard Ethan Alvano (185-1996, college: CSUSM) who added 25 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wonju DB have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 21-5 record. Mobis Phoebus at the other side keep the sixth place with 14 games lost. Wonju DB are looking forward to face league's second-placed LG Sakers in Changwon in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mobis Phoebus will have a break next round.
The game in Anyang supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Sonicboom (15-9) played at the court of 7th ranked Anyang (10-15). Sonicboom smashed Anyang 113-85. The winners were led by American power forward Paris Bass (207-1995, college: Detroit) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 10 assists and Yoongi Ha supported him with 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Even 18 points and 8 rebounds by American Robert Carter (206-1994, college: Maryland) did not help to save the game for Anyang. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Suwon KT maintains fourth position with 15-9 record. Anyang lost fourth consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the seventh place with 15 games lost. Suwon KT will play against KCC Egis (#5) in Jeonju in the next round. Anyang will play at home against Seoul Knights and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Sono SG will play against Seoul Thunders (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 20: LG Sakers won against KCC Egis on the opponent's court 95-91. KCC Egis managed to outperform KoGas in a home game 96-90. Bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders recorded a loss to Seoul Knights on the road 89-74. LG Sakers crushed Anyang on its own court 94-75.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by Assem Marei of LG Sakers.




Anyang - Suwon KT 85-113

The game in Anyang supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Sonicboom (15-9) played at the court of 7th ranked Anyang (10-15). Sonicboom smashed Anyang 113-85. Suwon KT shot 62.3 percent from the field. Suwon KT outrebounded Anyang 44-26 including a 30-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Suwon KT shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Rather expected game in Jeonju where 5th ranked Egis (12-10) were defeated by second ranked Sakers (18-7) 95-91 on Sunday. LG Sakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international point guard Jae-Do Lee (180-1991) chipped in 20 points and 7 assists. The former international forward Guna Ra (203-1989, college: Missouri) produced a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds and the former international guard Ung Heo (183-1993) added 21 points respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. LG Sakers maintains second position with 18-7 record having four points less than leader Wonju DB. Loser Egis keep the fifth place with ten games lost. LG Sakers will meet league's leader Wonju DB on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rather predictable result in Jeonju where fifth ranked Egis (12-10) defeated 9th ranked KoGas (7-18) 96-90 on Monday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. KCC Egis looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American Alize Johnson (206-1996, college: Missouri St.) who scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Joon-Young Choi (200-1994) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) produced 23 points and 7 rebounds and the former international forward DuVaughn Maxwell (201-1991, college: Hampton) added 19 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Five KCC Egis and four KoGas players scored in double figures. KoGas' coach Yoo Hoon rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. KCC Egis maintains fifth position with 12-10 record. Not a big story in a game in Seoul where 10th ranked Samsung Thunders (4-20) were defeated by third ranked Knights (16-8) 89-74 on Monday. Seoul Knights dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Samsung Thunders' 42. Strangely Seoul Thunders outrebounded Seoul Knights 51-39 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Seoul Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Seoul Thunders' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Seoul Knights made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 blocks.
